Progressive organisations and movements from across the Africa have issued a joint statement condemning the abduction of Nicolás Maduro, the constitutionally recognised President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The statement denounces the action as an act of imperial violence carried out by United States forces and describes it as a grave violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty, the right to self-determination and the principles of international law enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
The statement reads that the removal of President Maduro constitutes an attack not only on an individual but on popular sovereignty and democratic authority in Venezuela. It situates the incident within a longer history of United States intervention aimed at enforcing political and economic control over states that pursue independent development paths. The signatories warn that the use of abduction and unilateral force sets a dangerous international precedent and undermines global diplomatic and legal norms.
Pan-African Progressive Fronts and its allied forces calls on the international community to publicly condemn aggression against Venezuela, to mobilise political and diplomatic pressure and to demand the immediate and unconditional release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
