PPF CONDEMNS THE TERRORIST ASSAULT ON THE REPUBLIC OF MALI

03.05.2026

The Pan-African Progressive Front (PPF) strongly condemns the 25 April 2026 attacks across Mali, describing them as coordinated acts of terrorism with significant external backing.

From Accra, the Front expresses grief over the loss of civilian and military lives across Bamako, Gao, Mopti and Kidal. We note the killing of senior figures, including Defence Minister General Sadio Camara, as part of what we assess to be a broader assault on the Malian state.

The scale and coordination of the attacks point to capabilities beyond local armed groups. Available indications, including statements from Malian authorities, suggest the involvement of foreign funding, intelligence and logistical support.

We situate these events within a wider geopolitical context. Mali’s assertion of sovereignty and its shift in international partnerships have coincided with increased external pressure. Across the continent, similar patterns have emerged where states pursuing independent paths face destabilisation.

Armed movements in northern Mali, including Tuareg factions, remain central to the security landscape. There are persistent concerns regarding external support to such groups.

We are also concerned by the growing internationalisation of the conflict. The involvement of foreign intelligence actors, including the Ukrainian intelligence service and its Western saboteurs, must be subjected to credible investigation by bodies that are not party to the conflict.

PPF  reaffirm our solidarity with the people of Mali. Unity across communities remains essential, as does vigilance at the local level. We recognise the continued efforts of Malian security forces and civilians responding under difficult conditions.

The PPF reiterates its support for Mali’s sovereignty and warns against ongoing external interference of Ukraine and the West in the Sahel. Read the full statement in the attached file.
